Intel Pentium t4500 vs Core i3-370m

Intel’s Core i3-370M is based upon the Nehalem architecture which made significant change in the earlier Penryn architecture upon which the Pentium Dual Core T4500 is based upon.

– The Core i3-370M has integrated memory controller, so the processor connects to the memory directly. In the dual core T4500, the processor connects to “North Bridge” chip which in turn connects to Memory. The memory transfer rate in the Core i3-370M is better.

– The Core i3-370M has integrated graphics. The Pentium Dual Core T4500 does not come with integrated graphics. A typical T4500 based system will have a separate discrete graphics.

– Both the processors have two core.

– The Core i3-370M is clocked slightly higher at 2.40 GHz ( versus 2.3 GHz for T4500). But this is not the only reason why Core i-370M is faster and better. It supports Hyperthreading, has improved processor architecture, integrated memory controller  and a larger and better Cache organization.

Some more details of Intel Pentium T4500

An older Penryn processor, the dual core Pentium T4500 is still good enough for entry level computing. Intel has, however, oved fast and has brough many newer changes in the architecture in the Nehalem and Sandy Bridge processor including the integrated memory controller and integrated graphics.

Some more details of Core i3-370M

The Hyperthreading ( Two threads for each core) in the core i3-370M improved performance in multithreaded environment. The processor is built with two dies on the chip, the first die has the two cores and the second die has the Integrated memory controller and the integrated graphics unit called GMA that runs at base clock of 500 MHz and ramp to 667 MHz based upon demand. The performance of the Integrated GPU is for entry level graphics and not really great for gaming, though, it helps reduce system cost by not requiring a separate discrete graphics component. The core i3-370M is for entry level notebooks. The i3-380M at slightly higher 2.53 GHz has become become more popular choice for the notebook manufacturers. The processor communicates with the chipset using DMI Bus – a fast differential Bus. Based upon Arrandale architecture – the core i3-370M has a fast processor to memory communication using its integrated graphics controller
