Intel Pentium B960 Vs Core i5-2450M

With higher base clock  ( 2.50 GHz Vs 2.2 gHz) and support for the turbo boost and Hyperthreading, the Core i5-2450M significantly outsmarts Pentium B960 in CPU  as well as the integrated graphics performance.

The core i5-2450M as well as the B960, belong to the Sandy Bridge processors.

The Pentium B960 comes with inferior HD Graphics 2000 that has half the number of execution cores as compares to the HD Graphics 3000 in  Core i5-2450M ( 6 EUs vs 12 EUs).

Some more details of Intel Pentium B960

Pentium B960 is the highest clocked Pentium Processor in the Sandy Bridge line ( Update : B970 has superseded B960). With an entry level integrated graphics, the Pentium B960 dominates the low cost notebooks starting from the 1st quarter of 2012. You always have the option of going for the Core i3 or the core i5 processors at $50 to $200 extra.

Some more details of Core i5-2450M

The core i5-2450M is clocked at 2.50 GHz and is a mid performance processor with the support for the turbo boost. Its Integrated graphics HD 3000 is decent for games at low settings and resolutions and that are low to moderate in processing requirements.

In the next post we will compare the CPU benchmark comparison of the two processors.

There are few things missing in this. I would like to point them out.

    1. The Core i5 has the support for the newer AVX instruction sets, that Pentium does not.

    2. Video Encoding will be faster in COre i5 as it supports Quick Sync. The Pentium does not support Quick Sync.

  2. Silva says:

Any idea about how it compares with the Llano APUs from AMD ?

  3. abc923 says:

    Silva,

The Llano APU will have faster graphics but poorer CPU than the core i5. It will have CPU performance closer to the Pentium one.
