Intel Pentium B950 Vs i5-430M

Probably it is not a fair comparison. The Core i5-430M has some distinctive advantage even when it belongs to an earlier architecture. Take a look at some quick facts.

1. The Pentium B950 belongs to the newer Sandy Bridge Architecture while the core i5-430M belongs to the earlier architecture.

2. The biggest advantage with the Pentium B950 ( as a result of the architectural advance) is in the area of the integrated graphics in the Pentium B950.

3. Unfortunately the Pentium B950 does not support turbo and does not come with Hyperthreading. This, along with the fact that it is a lower clocked processor, reduced its performance as compared to the core i5-430M.

Some more details of Intel Pentium B950

Based upon Sandy Bridge architecture Pentium B950 is the elder brother of the more populate Pentium B940 processor. If we wish to compare Performance wise, it is better than the Arrandale Pentium processors aka, Pentium P6100 and P6200). The Hyperthreading in B950 ( as well as the Turbo Boost )is disabled in the Pentium B950, which leads to lower performance than the similarly clocked second generation Core i3 sandy bridge processor.

Some more details of Core i5-430M

The core i5-430M is a Mid level moderate performance notebook processor with impressive performance as evident by its benchmark results.
The integrated GPU provides entry level graphics performance. The GPU supports independent turbo boost with maximum turbo frequency of 766 MHz over its base frequency of 500 MHz.The Core i5-430M does not support the AES instructions and Intel Trusted Instructions, as do the core i5-5xxm processors do.
