Intel Pentium B940 Vs Pentium P6100 ( Dual core processors)

Both the Pentium B940 as well as the Pentium P6100 has a base clock frequency of 2000 MHz. The Pentium B940 belongs to the newer Sandy Bridge architecture while the Pentium P6100 is part of the earlier Arrandale architecture. We would like to bring the similarity and the differences in the two processors.

– The Cache architecture is slightly difference. The Pentium B940 has 2 MB of L3 cache, while the Pentium P6100 comes with 3 MB of L3 Cache memory.

– The Integrated graphics controller in the Pentium B940 ( called Intel HD Graphics 3000) is significantly improved over the Pentium P6100’s integrated graphics controller ( popularly called Intel GMA graphics). This will be helpful in visual displays and better gaming experience with the games requiring higher moderate computing power. The base frequency of the graphics is higher at 1.1 GHz in case of B940 as compared to the 650 MHz in Pentium P6100. Check out HD Graphics 3000 Vs Intel GMA Graphics

– The Passmark score of the Pentium B940 stands at 2018 ( reference ) as compared the Intel Pentium P6100’s score of 1519 – giving a whopping 30 % better performance for B940 as compared to Pentium P6100.

– The memory throughput ( the rate of the transfer of data between the processor and the memory in case of the Pentium B940 is significantly better as compared to the Pentium P6100). The Pentium B940 supports controller supports DDR3-1066 as well as the DDR3-1333 memory. The Pentium P6100 supports only DDR3-800 and DDR3-1066

The Pentium B940 is also significantly faster than the Pentium P6200 ( clocked higher at 2133 MHz). However it is reportedly generally slower than the 1st generation core i3 processors. For example the core i3-370M has a passmark score of 2219 or about 10% higher than the Pentium B940.

Can you compare it with Core i3-330M, Core i3-350 etc. How does it compare with AMD’s Phenon ii P960 ?

  2. That guy over there says:

Just wanted to point out that the P6100 2.0 Ghz Arrandale does in fact support DDR3 1333. If it didn’t, I wouldn’t be able to post this message right now from an Acer laptop with an Arrandale CPU and 4 GB of DDR3 1333. And that’s that… ha cha cha cha

    1. JOhn Smiths says:

Dude, it could be that your computer is running it at a lower speed…doesnt mean that you are running it at 1333…

Is exactly the correct response to said comment from “that guy over there”.

Gentlemen, please! Both the P6100, P-B940 as well as a hot-running AMD iiP960 all seem to be sufficient devices. According to the wife, “I think they are really…SUPER!” And, that’s from a Pentecostal nation-wide e-Prayer warrior!
We’ll take two of each, apiece!!

yo i had an opportunity to buy a system with the b940 in it and an opportunity to buy one with the p6100… i bought both.

I cant notice ANY difference in the two, except b940 was 100 dollars more… how ridiculous… Skip the B940.. for the price either get a 6100 or an I3… thats the only logical thing to do its kind of like a half step in between for double the price….
