Intel Pentium B940 Vs Core i3-380M

The Pentium B940 belongs to the newer architecture based upon Sandy Bridge. The Sandy Bridge architecture is characterized by a better integrated graphics, a unified core consisting of the processor and graphics core on a single die. It is an improvement of the earlier Arrandale architecture. The core i3-380M is a member of this earlier architecture.

The Pentium B940 is not necessarily a better processor since it is a stripped down version of the Sandy Bridge. It does not has Turbo boost. The Hyperthreading has been removed and it features a smaller 2 MB L3 Cache. On the positive side, it has better integrated graphics processor.

    The Benchmark result, obviously shows that the core i3-380M is significantly better than the Pentium B940. Obviously, the core frequency plays a dominant role.

    It may be better to compare the Pentium B940 with Pentium P6200 ( another member of the Arrandale architecture). If we do wish to compare with core i3 series, perhaps the core i3-350M makes a more comparable processor.
