Intel Pentium B940 Vs Core i3-330M

The Pentium B940 belongs to the newer Sandy Bridge processors while the Core i3-330M belongs to the older Arrandale architecture. Their Core i3-330M has slightly better clock frequency as compared to Pentium B940 ( 2.13 GHz Vs 2 GHz). Additionally Core i3-330M supports hyperthreading that B940 does not. This should lead to marginally better performance for core i3-330M.

However, the integrated graphics in the Pentium B940 is much better and should substantially outperform Core i3-330M.

Some more details of Intel Pentium B940

The architecture of the Pentium B940 is based upon Sandy Bridge. Performance wise, it is better than the Arrandale notebook based Pentium processors ( Pentium P6100 and P6200). However, the turbo boost feature is disabled in Pentium B940. Additionally the Hyperthreading is disabled leading to inferior performance as compared to the second generation Intel core i3 processors.

Some more details of Core i3-330M

The Hyperthreading in the core i3-330M allows 4 threads running simultaneously. The processor is built with two dies on the chip, the first die containing the two processor cores and the second die containing the Integrated memory controller and the integrated GPU. The performance of the Integrated GPU is for entry level graphics and not really great for gaming, though, it helps reduce system cost by not requiring a separate discrete graphics component. The core i3-330M is for entry level notebooks. More recently, the higher clocked, the core i3-380M has become more popular choice for the notebook manufacturers. The communication with the chipset is using fast differential DMI Bus.
