– The Core i7-3720QM belongs to the newer Ivy Bridge processor launched on April 29, 2012. The Core i7-2760QM belongs to the earlier Sandy Bridge. Both are quad core.

– The Core i7-3720QM is clocked 200 MHz higher in base ( 2.60 GHz Vs 2.40 GHz) and 100 MHz higher in turbo clock. This along with 10% clock to clock improvement in the Ivy Bridge architecture over that of the Sandy Bridge, gives close to 15% advantage in the Synthetic benchmarks.

– The Core i7-3720QM comes with a much better integrated graphics – the HD Graphics 4000. It has close to 50% performance improvement over the HD Graphics 3000 of the i7-2760QM.

In turbo the 4 cores can clock to 3.4 GHz , two core and single core turbo being 3.50 GHz and 3.60 GHz. The processor is ideal for larger notebooks that demand extreme processing power at reasonable price.

The core i7-2720QM is a high end notebolk processor suitable for the large notebooks ( as it has relatively higher 45 Watts TDP rating). At 2.50 GHz nominal clock frequency the processor is suitable for most of your high end computing augmented by its turbo boost. The integrated HD 3000 graphics is suitable for most of the games, though it is inferior to many of the AMD’s Radeon HD series ( check Radeon 6000 series) discrete graphics.
