Core i7-3740QM Vs i7-3720QM

Postby ihaveaquestion » Sun May 27, 2012 11:44 pm

While the Ivy Bridge Core i7-3720QM was released earlier, it looks like Intel has plans to release the next higher version - the Core i7-3740QM. Let us discuss it in this thread.

The Core i7-3720QM is clocked at 2.6 GHz base and 3.6 GHz turbo. Expect the i7-3740QM to be clocked 100 MHz higher at base clock of 2.7 GHz and Turbo clock of 3.7 GHz.

Higher number of the processor does not always mean that it will be clocked XXX MHz higher.
Of course the i7-3740 QM processor will be faster than the 17-3720 QM.

I'm just curious to know the price difference to see if it's actually worth getting, ;)

It looks like the Core i7-3740QM is still not launched officially ( Could not find any notebook that comes with it). That is on July 2, 2012. I am sure Intel will price it ridiculously high making in impractical to buy.

I've just checked and you're right, the processor has not been released yet.
Anyway, I just thought this information will be useful to a few people that wants to know more about the i7-3740 QM processor:

I will put my bet on the Core i7-3610QM which seems to be more affordable and there are a lot of notebooks in different display sizes available starting from $700.

Yes, most of these notebooks are manufactured in China and shipped out to US.

The 3720qm is currently the higher end for laptops (their is xeon all that but I'm not bringing them up in this post). However, with the 3740qm being a new processor I think that it will be overrated and not that much faster than the previous generation. However if I was planning to buy it at all or during any point, I would at least wait a few months till the price of it dropped down some. Still it could be interesting to see what it does to the market.

While the processor's CPU improves the speed only by 10% clock to clock compared to the previous gen Sandy bridge, the integrated graphics see 50% jump as compared to the one in the previous generation integrated graphics.
