Core i3-2350M Vs AMD A6-3420M
- The Core i3-2350M is Intel’s dual core Sandy Bridge processor while AMD’s A6-3420M is a quad core Llano APU.
- The Core i3-2350M does not support turbo boost while the A6-3420M supports turbo Core, something similar to turbo boost in Core i5 and Core i7 Intel processors. With Turbo Core, the processor cores can increase their clock frequency for a short duration of time if the application so require.
- The Core i3-2350M has slight edge in the processor performance. The Windows 7 Experience Index ( a crude bennchmark) of A6-3420M at 6.7 same as that for Core i3-2350M.
- The A6-3420M has a significantly better integrated graphics than that of the Core i3-2350M ans seen in the AMD radeon hd 6520g vs HD 3000 integrated graphics comparison. The HD 6520G is the integrated graphics in A6-3420M while the HD 3000 is the integrated graphics in Core i3-2350M.
In overall, the AMD’s A6-3420M could tun o better than the Intel’s Core i3-2350M.

Some more details of Core i3-2350M
The core i3-2350M is clocked at 2.30 GHz and is the fastest core i3 processor available at the time of writing ( core i3-2370M is not yet launched). There is no change with respect to the core i3-2330M ( the Sandy Bridge procesor, just below it in frequency).
Some more details of AMD A6-3420M
The AMD A6-3420M bumps up the clock frequency by 100 MHz. This should make it better performing than many of the Core i3 Sandy Bridge processor and brings it closer to some of the Core i5 Sandy Bridge processors. The Integrated Graphics in the A6-3420M is much better than the Intel’s HD Graphics 3000 and supports DirectX11. A great graphics at low power could be the best reason for you to consider A6-3420M
In the next page we will look at the processor benchmark of these two processors.

Footnote :
If you are looking at better CPU you may want to take a look at the Intel’s Core i5-2450M, but that too has the same graphics as the i3-2350M and AMD’s Llano A6-3420M will still lead in integrated graphics.

Hi not sure if you can help but I hope you can – I am cosidering upgrading from an intel centrino duo laptop (Toshiba) to a AMD A6-3420M in a DELL laptop. The Toshiba has been still is a brilliant bit of kit and will take some beating. Will I really see a difference between the two machines. Looking forward to your reply
Thanks David R.
The Llano chips are a great choice for a low end gaming laptop for kids, or if you are on a really tight budget.
The A6-3420M is pretty much close to the i3-2350M and you get a better graphics. So overall A6-3420M is better.
I will just go over, look for a better brand and price and buy one that that a better combination of brand + price.
You may also like to let a bit more time pass – Ivy Bridge has only been released for high end enthusiasts. In another quarter they will be launching their mainstream core i3 processors. And also, the Trinity is around. These will be more cost effective and provide more value, if you are into gaming.
I am choosing between 3.3 ghz intel core i3 (dual core) desktop and amd quad core a6-3450. Amd has better graphics and more cores AND is cheaper but the one with core i3 has a much faster processor. I will be using it to play games and do schoolwork. (i mean games like tf2 and spiral knights. Nothing too intense and i would like to play them on med/high graphics). I am leanin towards the amd. Both pcs have 1tb hdd and 6gb ram, wlan 802.11 bgn, so ya just peocessor type and speed diff.
I purchased an HP notebook with AMD A6-3420M and the integrated 6520g GPU. It comes with 4 GB RAM, 500gb HDD, 17.3 inch lcd and sounds a great purchase for $450 that I paid.
According to the specs the cpu clock can rise from from 1.5ghz all way to 2.4ghz. However somehow I can not make the cpu to raise its clock speed. When I play games games, it sits at 1.5ghz. No matter what I do – internet, watching movies or whatsoever – it sits at 1.5ghz.
When I run prime 95 it stays 1.5ghz. I rarely seee] the cpu speed in CPU-Z for may be a micro second jump to 2400mhz but then drop back down to 1.0 GHz.
Did someone else observe it ?
i also have an asus k43tk with a6 3420m+hd6520g and with hd7670m,
i can play cod mw III, battlefield, pes 2013 smoothly.
i also can switch the graphics card (from web browsing until game mode –crossfire–) and processor performance (from battery saving to high performance–extra boost– 2.4 ghz fully activated–) from driver that came with the laptop.
so i think maybe your laptop manufacturer did not give the complete/right driver for their products.
It is not possible to see the turboboost frequencies. They work but the drivers dont support reading them.
