The Tegra 3 based TF201-B1-GR Eee Pad Tablet more popularly caller Transformer Prime is a serious high end Tablet from Asus. In terms of performance  it significantly outsmarts  Apple’s iPad 2.

What it costs

ASUS TF201-B1-GR Tablet is available for $499 with 32 GB Model. We expect that the amount of the memory is more than sufficient for most users and we see no reason why you should go for the 64 GB model which you can get for $599.

The ASUS TF201-B1-GR is available for pre order. We do not know the exact shipment date, but, it is expected that the Tablet will ship sometime in the 2011 December end.

The Tablet is available in two colors Amethyst Gray and the Champagne. The part numbers for these colors are

ASUS TF201-B1-CG for Champagne

Both the above two models are 32 GB ones. We do not know the part numbers of the 64 GB Models, which will also be available in these two colors.

What Differentiates

There are two strikingly noticeable features of the Transformer TF201 Tablet – the Tegra 3 processor and the dock. Asus is the first to launch a quad core based tablet that promises performance, we have not seen in any of the Tablets so far. You may like to read about the Tegra 3 processor, if that interest you.

Secondly, the dock features is something we feel truly differentiates it is the dock. The Docking station has been there from the earlier TF101 model and has been a really useful if you like to type a lot using a “Real Keyboard”. Take a look at the ASUS TF201 with and without the dock.

The Docking station has a Keyboard, a battery and additional ports ( 2 x USB 2.0 Ports; SD Card Reader). Now you can take in any Microsoft Office docs that any of your friends sends you and may be able to edit it using Polaris Office. It comes preinstalled in the earlier TF101 Tablet and we see no reason why it should not be in the TF201. This make this Tablet as much useful as a full notebook with and addition advantages that come with the Tablets – mobility and longer battery life. The docking station has a battery in itself that extends the working life of the Main tablet. The only down point is – it does not come cheap. The docking station for the TF101 is at around $120 and we do not expect the TF201 docking station to be any cheaper.

The specification of the ASUS TF201 boasts 10.1 inch screen, 1200 x 800 resolution, 1 GB RAM, front and rear camera, Micro HDMI. The Tablet will run 12 hours on a single charge and you can extend the battery life to 18 hours total using the docking station.
