AMD FX-8120 Vs Intel Core i5-2400

– The FX-8120 is the bulldozer processor from AMD, while the Core i5-2400 is the Sandy Bridge processor form Intel.
– The FX-8120 is an eight  core processor ( going by AMD’s terminology) while the i5-2400 is quad core. Both have the same base clock at 3.1 GHz.

– The FX-8120 has slight edge over the Intel’s i5-2400. The AMD’s lead increases for multithreaded cases.

– The i5-2400. however, comes with HD Graphics 2000 integrated graphics. It does not has great performance but is good enough for encoding and decoding videos and seamless dual displays. You will still need a graphics card for high end gaming.

– FX-8120 as well as the i5-2400 was found to be priced identical at $189.99.

If you can make use of the integrated graphics of i5-2400 ( and you are not into gaming), it is an excellent solution. If you need a graphics card anyway, the bulldozer FX-8120 turns out better, as, it will give you better graphics performance.

You may also like to take a look at the Intel’s best seller – core i5-2500K which has better HD Graphics 3000 and has unlocked multiplier. You may also like to take a look at Ivy Bridge processors that launches in May/June 2012 time frame and will have much better integrated graphics performance.

The AMD’s FX-8150 is an 8 Core bulldozer processor that will perform great, especially in cases where all 8 of its core can be put into use. It supports Turbo boost and can be overclocked. The bulldoze architecture is based upon modules – with each module having two integer cores. Each of these two core have their own L1 Data Cache.

Some more details of Core i5-2400

The core i5-2400 is the second generation Core i5 processor, more popularly known as the Sandy bridge Processor. There have been several improvement over the previous generation core i5 processor, mos notable among them is the improvement in the integrated graphics ( x2 performance improvement). The new Turbo 2.0 further boosts the performance. In the lithography improvement the we now have a unified 32 nm die having everything on a single die.
