AMD FX-6100 Vs Core i3-2120

– The FX-6100 is a bulldozer processor from AMD, while the Core i3-2120 is a Sandy Bridge processor.
– Both the processors are clocked identically at 3.3 GHz, however,
– The FX-6100 is a hex core processor ( as per AMD’s terminology for number of cores) while the Core i3-2120 is a dual core processor with Hyperthreading support.
– With larger number of cores, the FX-6100 is much better in processor performance and is more suitable for games that need CPU intensive tasks.
– The Core i3-2120 comes with integrated graphics ( HD Graphics 2000), while the FX-6100 does not come with any integrated graphics. The graphics performance of the i3-2120 is not great for gaming ( though still good for a fluid display). You will need a graphics card anyway, if you plan to play any fast moving game.

Some more details of Core i3-2120

The Core i3-2120 is the second generation Intel Core i3 processor ( Also called Sandy Bridge Processor) improving significantly upon the architecture that evolved from Arrandale. Although turbo boost is not available in the core i3-2120 ( The newer turbo 2.0 technology, that increases the time for which processor can be in the boosted state, is available only on the second generation core i5 and i7 processors), the processor still shows significant performance improvement over similarly clocked 1st generation core i3 processor. The more significant improvement has been in the area of integrated graphics unit.
