AMD E450 vs Intel Core i3-2330m

AMD’s E-450 and Core i3-2330M may not be right processors to compare. Both of them are intended to serve different market segments – though they sever many overlapping functions. The AMD’s E-450 is a low cost  processor that consumes low power ( and therefore enhance battery life) and are found in the netbooks and small notebooks. Typical price of the notebooks being $300 to $350. The Core i3-2330M can be categorized as and entry to mid level notebooks with a significantly fast processor performance than the AMD’s E-450. It may be more worthwhile to compare E-450 with Intel Atoms.

The AMD E-450 belong to the brazos family characterized by the a decent graphics performance. The Sandy Bridge Core i3-2330M also has good graphics performance. If you are not looking for extreme mobility and battery life, you may be better off with Core i3-2330M ( pay $100 to $150 extra).

For example the Toshiba – Satellite Laptop C655-S5307 , a 15.6 inch notebook powered by the core i3-2330M costs $458 ( at the time of writing).

The Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5304 , powered by E-450, on the other hand is available for $299 at best buy.

A discussion at the forum reveals that it is more meaningful to compare E-450 with Ultra Low voltage Core i3 processors.

Some more details of AMD E-450

The E-450 promises to enhance the performance of the earlier E-350 fusion processor mainly with support for turbo core. It increases the nominal core frequency to 1.65 GHz ( up from 1.60 GHz in E-350). The GPU uses newer core and supports turbo. Called APU ( Accelerated Processing Unit) by AMD, the E-450 will feature in low cost net book and small notebooks. It promises a decent multimedia performance.

Some more details of Core i3-2330M

The Core i3-2330M marginally improves upon the core i3-2310M and should therefore offer a performance improvement of the order of 4%. The turbo boost is not available with core i3-2330M which will reduce its performance as compared to the core i5 processors. The graphics performance is decent with Intel’s integrated graphics 3000.
