AMD A6-4400M Vs Intel Core i3-2350M

Comparing processors, of different architectures could be difficult, especially since it also involves comparing the integrated graphics as well. The A6-4400M belongs to the AMD’s newer Trinity architecture while the i3-2350M is Intel’s older Sandy Bridge processor.

While both are dual core, AMD’s dual core is not 100% dual core. The A6-4400M consists of a module and the module contains two integer cores and a Floating point core. While most processing requirement center around the Integer core ( and in that way, AMD may be justified in calling it a dual core), there are no 100% two cores. Intel on the other hand has two complete cores and has hyperthreading support ( that exploits the idle period between processes to let another process or a thread run on the same core).

When it comes to numbers the Intel’s Core i3-2350M has better number to present. Check the benchmark result at the bottom.

AMD’s A6-4400M comes withe newer HD Graphics – Radeon HD 7520G, but is has only 192 shaders ( of the max 394 in the Trinity series). The Intel’s i3-2350M comes with HD Graphics 3000. Some more details of A6-4400M

The AMD A6-4400M is based upon Trinity architecture released in 2012. It is a successor to the Llano APU and comes with better Radeon HD 7520G graphics. AMD calls it APU ( or accelerated Processing Unit) since it contains the processor core as well as graphics.

The Trinity comes with improved Bulldozer architecture, that AMD has nicknamed Piledriver. In reality, it has one module that comes with two integer core and a shared floating point core. Purist hate to call it a real dual core. The new architectures comes with improved performance per clock and a better Turbo boost.

At 2.70 GHz base clock and 3.20 GHz turbo clock the processor is not slow, though still lagging seriously behind the Intel’s Ivy Bridge Core i5 and core i7 processors.

The integrated Radeon HD 7520G has only 192 shader cores of the Trinity chip (7660G has 384). while the Radeon HD 7660G is a true performer trashing Intel’s HD Graphics 4000 by a wide margin, the 7520G will have performance level between 7660G and HD Graphics 4000.

Some more details of Core i3-2350M

The core i3-2350M is clocked at 2.30 GHz and is the fastest core i3 processor available at the time of writing ( core i3-2370M is not yet launched). There is no change with respect to the core i3-2330M ( the Sandy Bridge processor, just below it in frequency).
