AMD A6-3420M Vs A8-4500M

Bottomline – The newer A8-4500M is much faster than the A6-3420M both in CPU and the integrated graphics performance and could be slightly expensive.

The A6-3420M belongs to the earlier Llano Series while the A8-4500M is the newer Trinity APU ( Accelerated Processing Unit), both from AMD. The Trinity architecture has improved the performance per clock of its CPU section and has also been able to reach higher clock frequency while keeping the TDP same. It also comes with improved integrated graphics.

Both the A6-3420M as well as the A8-4500M are quad core processors ( essentially 2 modules and 4 integer cores) but the A8-4500M is clocked 400 MHz higher. This, alongwith the improvement in the performance per clock in the Trinity architecture makes A8-4500M much faster.

The integrated graphics performance also improves. You can expect better gaming experience with A8-4500M and a large number of games are playable now with its integrated graphics. You may like to check this post on forum about it.

Some more details of AMD A6-3420M

The AMD A6-3420M bumps up the clock frequency of A6-3400M by 100 MHz. This should make it better performing than many of the Core i3 Sandy Bridge processor and brings it closer to some of the Core i5 Sandy Bridge processors. The Integrated Graphics in the A6-3420M is much better than the Intel’s HD Graphics 3000 and supports DirectX11. A great graphics at low power could be the best reason for you to consider A6-3420M

Some more details of A8-4500M

This Accelerated Processing Unit ( As AMD calls it) belongs to Trinity architecture and comes a decent Radeon HD 7640G integrated graphics. The architecture is an improved bulldozer architecture that consists of modules. Each module has two integer cores and the a common floating point core. The A8-4500M basically has 2 modules and 4 cores that is conveniently referred to as 4 core processors.

AMD has been able to deliver better performance per clock with Trinity and has also been able to reach higher clock frequency. This has made AMD a bit more competitive against the Intel’s Ivy Bridge onslaught.
